Frequently Asked Questions
Financial Planning is an ongoing dynamic relationship between you and your financial planner. Each situation is unique and a lot of the timing depends on how active you are in the process. Generally speaking, you could break out a full financial plan process into these phases:
Phase 1 - Onboarding - (3 - 6 weeks)
Phase 2 - Foundational Planning - (2 - 6 months)
Phase 3 - Plan Implementation - (2 - 6 months)
Phase 4 - Ongoing Maintenance
Our base packages for ongoing planning start from $3,600 to $6,000 a year, depending on the level of services you need and if we're planning for a couple or individual. The normal payment plan for the first year is 50% of the total upfront, and the remaining amount is split into 3 equal quarters. For your second year onwards, you pay a quarterly fee equal to 25% of the total annual fee.
Example
A client engaging in January with a total annual fee of $6,000 would be billed: $3,000 upfront, $1,000 in April, August and December. For their second year with a total annual fee of $6,000, they would be billed $1,500 in January, April, August, and December.
If you ONLY want Investment Management Services, there is no annual fee. We charge an Assets Under Management (AUM) fee that is billed quarterly, in arrears. More pricing information, including an AUM Pricing calculator can be found on our Packages & Pricing page.
Financial planners and advisors can charge for their services in a variety of ways.
Norsu Financial Planning is fee-only, meaning we only make money through the planning and AUM fees we charge our clients. We do not make any money from commissions (such as sales of insurance products, or of securities), and we do not make any money for referrals. If we recommend a CPA, estate attorney, insurance agent, or any other professional for services, we cannot be compensated for that.
We also operate under the fiduciary standard. This means that we are required to put our clients' interests ahead of our own. Fiduciary advisors must act in good faith, disclose conflicts of interest, and act with prudence and diligence.
No. We do not have any minimums.
Many advisors require you to have reached a certain threshold of investable assets ($500k, or $1M, for example). Although we do feel that you are more likely gain more value from our investment services when you reach those levels, we believe everyone deserves good financial advice. Our financial planning packages are intended to be affordable for anyone that needs financial planning.
Our Financial Planning services are considered to be holistic and comprehensive, with the understanding that the most valuable financial plan will encompass all aspects of your financial life. This is why our Financial Planning packages include, by default, Cash Flow and Debt Management, Retirement Planning, Investment Planning, Education Funding, Employee Benefits, Insurance Needs, Tax Considerations, and Estate Planning.
We also realize that some potential clients, for one reason or another, do not always want a full financial plan, but would rather us only be involved with managing their investable assets. This stand-alone service focuses on implementing and managing an investment portfolio with the intent of helping those clients reach their investment goals.
Absolutely!

From a legal perspective, the answer is "Yes... but with some legal disclaimers we are required to tell you about." In plain English, this means that most states will allow us to work with a certain number of households without registration. We don't foresee any issues here, but if we get to the point where there are any legal concerns about working with you for any reason, we'll be transparent and make sure you know.
